Request Saginaw County Court Records

Finding a Saginaw County court case starts with knowing which court holds the file. The docket is the public window, but the record itself lives with a specific clerk or court office. Begin by identifying the court, the case number, and the party or style of the case, then take the request to the office that keeps that file. To request Saginaw County court records, use the court\'s own channel and describe exactly what you need, whether that is a Register of Actions, a single document, or a hearing entry. Copies and certified documents follow their own process. Michigan rules can also shield certain cases or personal details from public view.

Saginaw County Court Record Requests

The Saginaw County Court Information Search is the first stop for a docket lookup. It shows the case number and the court category. The Register of Actions also appears for matching cases. One caution matters here. The display is not the official record, and it posts no public documents. For a 10th Circuit Court of Saginaw County file, turn to the County Clerk's Circuit Court Records & Filing division. It works from its Copy Request Form. District and Probate records sit with their own custodians instead.

  1. Find the court, case number, party names, and ROA through the county portal.
  2. Name an exact document, a certified ROA, or a complete file except nonpublic material.
  3. Use the Circuit form for a Circuit request by email, mail, or the counter.
  4. Call or visit the correct District or Probate office for its current copy procedure.
  5. Use MiCOURT as a statewide discovery fallback, then return to the court of record.
  6. Ask about charges and accepted payment before sending a request.

Circuit copy requests go by email to circuitcourtrecordsfiling@saginawcounty.com. Mail goes to Saginaw County Circuit Court Records, 111 S. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw MI 48602. The form asks for photo identification. Call (989) 790-5540 with questions. Keep in mind that a case visible in the county search layer does not turn into a Circuit copy. District traffic, civil, and criminal files stay with the District Court custodian.

Finding a Saginaw Register of Actions

ROA stands for Register of Actions. That is the clerk's name for the case-history record. It bridges an online search result and an actual copy request. Open the matching Odyssey case and copy the case number exactly as displayed. Then decide what you need. It could be the full ROA, one document with a title, or the complete file minus nonpublic items. A vague request slows things down. The clerk must have a document title or case style to find anything. The official Circuit Court division posts the records-access and copy instructions.

The presentation draws a clear line. A searchable case history is one thing; copies come from the official records division.

Kinds of Court Records

A court file holds more than its docket list. The 10th Circuit clerk keeps Circuit civil, criminal-after-bindover, domestic-relations, family, and appeal records. The 70th District Court holds its own files. Those cover civil, small-claims, misdemeanor, and traffic cases. Probate has a separate Register. Juvenile and Family work is a Circuit division with its own location.

  • Register of Actions and public case-history entries.
  • Complaints, informations, answers, motions, and orders.
  • Judgments, dispositions, certificates, and public financial entries.
  • Transcripts or exhibits when they are filed and available under the access rules.
  • District traffic, civil, small-claims, and criminal records held by that court.

Not everything is public. A portal result may name a case while a protected document or full file cannot be copied in the form requested.

Saginaw Court Record Custodians

Custody in Saginaw County is split by court. The Saginaw County Clerk / Clerk of the Circuit Court maintains 10th Circuit files. Its Circuit Court Records & Filing division does the work. The 70th District Court keeps its own district-level cases. Probate records belong to the Probate Register. Always match the court shown on the docket. Use the counter, phone line, or mail address that fits it. Circuit Records & Filing sits in Room 101. The address is the Saginaw County Courthouse / Governmental Center, 111 S. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw MI 48602. For phone contact, Traffic is (989) 790-5390, Civil is (989) 790-5380, Criminal is (989) 790-5385, and Probate is (989) 790-5279. The right office can confirm whether a document exists as a public copy. Check before you travel or mail anything. The Saginaw County Clerk lays out the divisions that route Circuit records.

Court Records: What They Contain

A public case record blends case identity with filings and court action. The docket, or ROA, lists the events. They appear in the order they happened. The complete file may add the documents tied to those events. But a public entry makes no such promise. Not every exhibit, attachment, or paper is online or ready to copy.

Case identityCase number, court, case type, filing date, status, and parties.
ROA / docketChronological entries, hearings, motions, and dispositions.
PleadingsFiled complaints, informations, answers, and motions when public.
Orders and judgmentsSigned rulings, judgments, and final dispositions.
Financial historyPublic assessments, payments, balances, and related entries when shown.

Ask for a titled order or judgment when that is the document you need. A printout from a portal will not do the same job. Certification requires asking the clerk for a certified ROA or a certified page copy instead.

Choosing Saginaw Court File Requests

The Saginaw County Circuit request form gives you two routes. You can ask for the complete file, minus nonpublic documents. Or you can name specific titles. A full-file request fits when you know the scope already. Need only a judgment, motion, order, complaint, or ROA? Title it and skip the rest. Either way, staff need enough detail to pull the correct case file.

Fill in your name, mailing address, phone, and email. Add the party names and the case number. State the documents sought. List your certification choice, your mailing needs, and the photo ID the form requires. The official sources promise no universal turnaround for ordinary or certified copies. Confirm timing with the custodian rather than assuming it.

An office-use section on the form tallies page count, certification, mailing, and the total. It also records the staff handler and the date. So a final total can't be quoted before the office counts the pages. That is also why a clear, limited request moves faster. An untitled demand for everything connected to a name moves slower. Check the public portal for a document's title, then put that title on the form. Circuit records are described as computerized for cases filed from 1985 to the present. That index statement is not a promise. It does not mean every older paper item is online or immediately reproducible.

For a court-date question, use the county docket results and confirm with the responsible division. For copies, send the completed request to the record custodian. The Circuit courtesy email process is for filing PDFs, not copy requests. District and Probate offices run separate procedures. An Odyssey search covers all three court categories. It does not send your mail request to Circuit Records.

Copy Fees and Certification

A plain copy and a certified copy differ. The Saginaw County Circuit form prices plain copies at $1 per page. Certification adds $10 per item on top of the page charge. Standard number-10-envelope mailing runs $1. A Circuit record search is listed at $10 per name with a return envelope. Fees can change, the County Clerk says. Check the current fee page before paying.

Saginaw Circuit Email Filing Limits

Courtesy email filing is a Saginaw County Circuit channel for filings, not a promise that the clerk sends copies the same way. The clerk accepts mail, in-person delivery, courthouse drop box, and courtesy email filings. Fax is not accepted. The email route comes with requirements. Attach a PDF. Include the complete caption, the case number, and the document title. Put supporting information in the email body, with a signature or notarization when applicable.

A filing received after 5:00 p.m. is treated as filed the next business day. The clerk does not promise a filing-confirmation email. Do not send duplicate mail and email filings. MiFILE electronic filing is not offered locally, according to the Self-Help Center. The Circuit email-filing instructions set those boundaries.

The local email process shows why a document filing and a court-copy request have to be handled as separate errands.

Access Rules for Court Records

Michigan Court Rule 8.119 governs public inspection, copies, electronic access, redaction, and restrictions on court records. MCR Chapter 6 supplies the criminal-record and jurisdiction rules. Michigan FOIA is not the path for judiciary files. MCL 15.232 excludes the judiciary from the county FOIA framework, so use the court's rule-based access and copy procedure instead.

Access rule: MCR 8.119 generally permits inspection and copies subject to restrictions, redaction, and court orders. MCR Chapter 6 supplies criminal-record context. MCL 15.232 explains the judiciary’s FOIA exclusion.

Juvenile and adoption files may be sealed or redacted. Child-protective, mental-health, suppressed, and other protected matters can be unavailable too. If an office restricts a request, ask for the applicable court rule or local order. Then ask for the proper review route.

Saginaw Court Records at the Self-Help Center

You don't have to do everything online. The Saginaw County Legal Self-Help Center sits on the lower level of the main courthouse. It offers public kiosks, scanners, and printers. Use them to consult the public portal or prepare your materials. They won't unlock nonpublic records. Nor do they replace the responsible clerk's copy process. The Self-Help Center page describes the courthouse equipment and local availability.

Sometimes a portal search must become a written request to the right court office. This Saginaw County access point helps with that step.
